The Reebok RunTone Trainer
On the back of the immense success of EasyTone trainers, Reebok have decided to release RunTone toning trainers as a response to calls from runners and other exercise fanatics. EasyTones, were not designed with running in mind, as they do not offer enough stability for vigorous exercise, and were designed to tone through very light exercise such as walking.
RunTones have been designed to give more stability due to the six internal stability pods on the shoe, a contrast to Easytone's two pods. There are also a further eight air filled stability pods on the exterior sole. DMX Shear Cushioning has been added to the heel, and a MEVA midsole, all of which add up to more safety and comfort with higher impact exercise.
They continue use of the EasyTone Smoothfit system for added comfort provided by the soft liner which cuts out on any seams rubbing against the feet which can be a nightmare when jogging or running, further enhancing their comfort.
They work in much the same way as Easytone Trainers do, by applying the principal of increased instability leading to increased toning. The pods cause instability as the weight of the body shifts, and this leads to increased muscle reaction. In short it ensures that more muscles are exercised to counter the effects of the instability. Obviously it would not make sense to run in a pair of shoes that are too unstable, as that would result in 'catwalk style high heel topple overs' which would not be good for either the jogger or Reebok. So whilst instability is there, it is on a greatly reduced level, and is practically unnoticeable.
Reebok claim that the shoes will increase your gluteal toning by up to 28%, and your biceps femoris and quadricep and calve muscle groups by 11%. This is not guaranteed, as we are all built differently and have different training levels to achieve. The only way to see if they do the job is to try a pair, and they are competitively priced within the general running shoe market, and cheaper than a lot of fashion based trainers.
While there are other toning shoes available for walking in competition with the EasyTone trainers, at the time of writing, there are no other trainers out there designed with running, or any other fast paced exercise in mind. So for the moment, they are the only option for a toning running shoe. As well as being the only ones, they are also still a good looking trainer, and are set to become the next big thing in toning assistance products, as well as being a fashion, and an exercise product.
